Paget Brewster returning to ‘Criminal Minds’ full

The 47-year-old actress was already slated to guest star in season 12 but was promoted to full-time after Gibson was sacked from the procedural drama earlier this month.

Several weeks ago, Gibson made the headlines when he figured in an on-set altercation with Virgil Williams, one of the show’s writers/co-executive producers.

Fans might be down in the dumps to see Aaron Hotchner leave “Criminal Minds” – thanks to Thomas Gibson’s firing earlier this month – but it probably helped pin Paget Brewster down to return as Emily Prentiss.

With Hotch leaving the BAU, we have to wonder if this will mean big things for Prentiss in regards to her position on the team. “Having her back on set has been great, it’s like she never left”.

Back in July, it was announced that Brewster was returning to the show for multiple episodes by Kirsten Vangsness, who plays Penelope Garcia, the Behavioral Analysis Unit’s tech genius, at Comic Con’s Fan Favorite Panel.

This is a homecoming for Brewster, who was a regular on the series’ second through seventh seasons.

Thomas Gibson was ousted from the show after 11 years. Personally, we’d be more than fine if the series did eventually make Brewster’s Emily Prentiss the leader of the BAU, but that’s just our own opinion on the matter.

Erica Messer didn’t share any details on Brewster’s role in Season 12 of Criminal Minds, but she did tell Entertainment Weekly a little bit about what we can expect in the new episodes. But now, CBS has decided to make Brewster a full-fledged series regular again.

“Criminal Minds” returns September 28th at 9 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.

With two major characters gone from “Criminal Minds”, fans anticipate Brewster to be playing a more important role.
