He said that Younis, 37, has been waiting for the right time to call it a day from 50-overs cricket and the series against England gives him this chance.
England have a decision to make as to who keeps wicket, with Buttler favourite to play ahead of Jonny Bairstow. England are around 7/2 to win the series, and 4/1 to do so by a 3-1 margin.
Eoin Morgan expects his new-look England one-day team to continue their upward trajectory by learning on the job against Pakistan in the UAE.
The task at hand was not lost on Pakistan coach Waqar Younis.
“There has been so much controversy over his selection in the one-day team and plus the clear indications from the team management that they want to build a young team for the World Cup 2019 that Younis is contemplating retirement”, one source confirmed.
The Pakistanis were knocked out of the World Cup by eventual winners Australia in the quarter-finals, but provided one of the lasting memories from the tournament in Wahab Riaz’s spell to Shane Watson.
“He will share the new ball with Mohammad Irfan, another left armer, who has been variously measured by the PCB as somewhere between 6’8″ and 7’1” in height.
“We’ve have won the Tests, so we want to take that morale into the ODIs and perform like that”. Plunkett and Chris Jordan will also feature at a few stage.
But I’m not sure it’s as clear-cut as the odds suggest that the one-day series goes the same way.
“This is a relatively inexperienced, albeit exciting England side taking on a Pakistan side comfortable in these conditions”.
Following their Test series defeat by Pakistan, England face the same opposition in four ODIs and three T20s from November 11-30.
His tenure began with a first ever bilateral series loss against Bangladesh but Pakistan have since pulled out of their tailspin by beating Zimbabwe at home – amid emotions as heightened as the security – and away, as well as winning in Sri Lanka for the first time since 2006. It is less than six months since he scored a 66-ball ODI hundred against New Zealand (marginally slower than his England record) and the hope is a return to limited-overs colours will free him up.
First ODI of four match series will be played on Wednesday at Abu Dhabi.
“It’s particularly disappointing. The target was not hard but our top order couldn’t play well”, Zimbabwean skipper Elton Chigumbura said after the match, according to the Associated Press.
Hales is another England player with plenty to prove.
The Asians have now turned their attention to the 50-over game after securing a 2-0 Test series victory over Alastair Cook’s side. I changed to a Masuri and, it’s just a personal opinion, but I feel more protected with the stem guard they have so I went for their full helmet.

Like England, Pakistan too are in transition but the former have fared much better.
