The PM was taking the nation into confidence over the judicial commission report on rigging allegations in the 2013 general elections, private news channels reported.

However, it also maintained that PTI’s request to conduct a probe into alleged rigging in the May 2013 polls was not “entirely unjustified”.

Without confirming or denying that the commission had submitted its report to the government, PML-N’s counsel Shahid Hamid said: “This is a matter of congratulations for 46 million voters and all political parties which had participated in the elections”.

A prime ministerial spokesman said Nawaz Sharif would make a national address later on Thursday.

The consultative meeting was called to mull over legal and constitutional aspects raised in the commission’s detailed report.

Others say developments in the region were also behind the invitation. He said the problems can not be solved on the roads but in the parliament which is representative of the people.

Appreciating the commitment of the nation in the war against terrorism, the PM said that our army, civilian institutions and civil-military law-enforcing agencies are fighting the terrorists in the mountains and valleys and caves of the North. “It is our resolve to bring peace to these mountains and our cities”, he said.

“According to the commission, the 2013 general elections were organized and conducted fairly and in accordance with the law”.

He said that it is a landmark decision by the commission.

Nawaz Sharif pointed out that ever since general elections, his Government pursued constructive policy of mutual consultations, reconciliation and consensus building.

Nawaz Sharif said we should consider verdict of the Inquiry Commission as a milestone and embark on a new journey on the road to progress and prosperity and get rid of chaos, uncertainty and instability.

“I do not believe that there should be any differences between the government and the opposition on national issues”.

“We will continue to abide by the same principles in future as well”. He, however, expressed the hope that those who wasted precious time of the nation would also learn the lesson and desist from negative politics.

PTI along with 21 other political parties had alleged that rigging had taken place
