Pak PM dedicates Independence Day to freedom movement in Kashmir

Felicitating the Pakistani nation and its people on their 69th Independence Day on behalf of people of Kashmir, the Mirwaiz prayed for peace and stability In Pakistan and wished happiness and prosperity to its people.

The day will dawn with a 31-gun salute in Islamabad and 21-gun salute in the provincial capitals.

An official release by the Prime Minister’s house states the main Independence Day event will be a flag-hoisting ceremony in the federal capital, where President Mamnoon Hussain would address the nation.

Mr. Hussain mostly talked about internal challenges and importance of eliminating militancy.

Condemned the atrocities by the Indian forces against the people of Indian-held Kashmir, the ambassador reiterated Pakistan’s firm resolve to continue its moral, diplomatic and political support to the just struggle of Muslims of Kashmir.

“When we remember the Quaid, leaders and workers of Pakistan Movement, our hearts are enlightened with the memory people who have become immortal by sacrificing their lives for the country”, the PM said. It was followed by flag hoisting by the President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain and playing of the national anthem.

According to Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), cellular phone services remained suspended in Karachi, Lahore, Faisalabad and other cities from 6am to 12pm.

Azadi ceremonies were held in Diamer, Ghizer, Astore, Hunza and Nagar district headquarters where national flag was hoisted.

All the major public and private buildings, roads and avenues have been decorated with illuminations, national flags, portraits of the national leaders, banners and buntings.

A contingent of the Pakistan Army took charge as guards of the Mazaar from Punjab Rangers.

Pakistan celebrated its 70th Independence Day on Sunday with commemorative ceremonies held in Islamabad, as well as at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi and the Pakistani embassy in Kabul.

The ground and the surrounding areas were lit with thousands of colourful fireworks.
