Pakistan 247-8 against England

The third match in the series, played a couple of days ago in Nottingham, saw England pile on a massive 3-444, eclipsing the world record for runs in an ODI by one run, with a last-ball boundary.

England struck a world record one-day worldwide total of 444-3 as they crushed Pakistan by 169 runs at Trent Bridge to take an unbeatable 3-0 lead in the five-match series.

The hosts, following up the record-breaking heroics of Trent Bridge – where they racked up an all-time highest one-day global total of 444 for three – have also wrapped up Andrew Strauss’ cross-format Super Series for good measure. Hales plundered 171, the highest individual limited-overs score by an England batsman, before Buttler reached his fifty off 22 deliveries, another record for his country.

Both Hales and Root fell in quick succession to leave England 283 for three in 38 overs.

Joe Root (85) and captain Eoin Morgan (57 not out) also joined England’s run rampage at Trent Bridge against some sloppy Pakistan bowling and fielding, with Wahab Riaz (0-110) going for the second worst ever bowling figures in a limited-overs global.

The right-hander scored the fastest 50 by an Englishman, off just 22 balls, and ended up unbeaten on 90 (51b, 7×4, 7×6), while Morgan added 57 from 27 balls (3×4, 5×6) as England crossed the previous world record mark by a single run.

“I knew I was I closing in”, said Hales.

Pakistan left-arm fast bowler Wahab Riaz finished with figures of none for 110 in his maximum 10 overs.

Hales surpassed Robin Smith’s 23-year record as England amassed the highest ever ODI total and claimed a series victory in their 169-run win. Riaz’s indiscipline proved expensive since he twice took “wickets” with no-balls.

“What a monumental knock from Alex Hales on his home ground, our innings was based around that, not to undermine Joe Root’s part in that”, Morgan said.

“On a wicket like this we really need to support the bowlers and it didn’t happen”. England’s 16 sixes was also their highest number of maximums in an ODI.

Pakistan’s stop-start innings got under way with an early wicket, Sharjeel Khan departing to a fine running catch by Ben Stokes after skewing a drive over extra-cover off Chris Jordan.
