Explosions and gunfire erupted as the militants attacked the camp, which is located barely few metres away from the Army’s Brigade Headquarters in Uri town, 102 kms from here, around 4 am, officials said.

DGMO Lt Gen Ranbir Singh called up his counterpart in Pakistan expressing “serious concerns” over Pakistani marking found on the equipment used by four “foreign” terrorists.
An attack on another Indian base near the border in January also drew a measured response, but the casualty toll was lower than in Sunday’s raid.
According to him, it was quite tragic that premier of a state that poses itself on global level as the most secular and democratic country to its core would not wait for investigations to hold Pakistan responsible for an act of extremism that the country has been denouncing for the longest time.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the attack and tweeted, “I assure the nation that those behind this despicable attack will not go unpunished”.
However, Pakistan has flatly refused New Delhi’s claims of Islamabad’s involvement in Uri terror attack, stating that said that pointing fingers on them has become a traditional tendency of India after each terrorist attack.
The attack followed weeks of protests against Indian rule in Kashmir sparked by the killing of popular rebel leader Burhan Wani in a gunfight with security forces.
“The Government of Canada extends condolences to the victims and their families”.
Sitaram Yechury also targeted the neighbour country and said,”Pakistan must refrain from indulging in cross border terrorism”.
Twenty-eight injured soldiers were airlifted to a military hospital in the region’s main city of Srinagar, four of them in critical condition, an army officer said.
The army yesterday announced that the initial reports indicated that the four terrorists killed in the attack belong to Jaish-e-Mohammad Tanzeem.
The meeting was held shortly after the Home Minister reviewed the situation along the border and the Line of Control (LoC).
Meanwhile, as the government and Indians micro-blogging website users began targeting Pakistan for Uri attacks, some Pakistanis countered back with their views and theories.

Pakistan’s making but a direct outcome of illegal Indian occupation and a long history of atrocities that has resulted in over a 100 deaths. “No one in India will ask questions like how did armed attackers infiltrate a heavily guarded army base – everyone’s busy blaming Pakistan”, he wrote.
