Pakistan aware of ‘nefarious designs’ of enemies: General Raheel

Pakistan-occupied Gilgit-Baltistan chief minister Hafizur Rehman yesterday criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks on human rights situation in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir and Balochistan.

He said funds have been released for Gwadar Safe City project.

Development in Gwadar, he added, would have a countrywide impact and Balochistan’s backward and far-flung areas would be linked with the main highways.

The prime minister was accompanied by Balochistan Governor Muhammad Khan Achakzai, Chief Minister Sanaullah Zahri, Minister for Port and Shipping Mir Hasil Bazenjo and Adviser to the PM on National Security Lt General (retd) Nasser Khan Janjua.

“Chinese interest is tremendous in Pakistan and the new deal would be quite attractive to strengthen cooperation under CPEC”, said Taha Javed, director of research at Alfalah Securities, referring to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

Nawaz said the government was determined to develop road infrastructure across the country, particularly the areas where there was no concept of roads.

Conference in Gilgit, COAS said that he completely understood the games being played by the enemies. The journey of Balochistan’s development has started, he added.

The chief of army staff further said that they will ensure the security of CPEC because it is a matter of our survival.

The prime minister was briefed about various projects.

The other projects included inauguration of a school at Gwadar that has been gifted by the Communist Party of China.

Sharif pointed out that a 300MW coal fired power plant is being built which will provide electricity to Gwadar and other parts of Balochistan while a desalination plant will provide clean drinking water to the city and adjoining areas. He said Pakistan and China will work together for making Gwadar Free Trade Zone.
