Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq said Mohammad Amir could start a “new life” after he completed his return to he scene of his spot-fixing shame by rounding off victory over England in the first Test at Lord´s on Sunday.

England were bowled out for a total of 207 in the second innings of the match.

England, chasing 283 runs to win the first game of the four match series, require another 128 runs to win with four wickets in hand.

Jonny Bairstow top scored with a restrained 48 off 147 balls and defied Pakistan for over two hours with Chris Woakes (23) in a seventh-wicket stand of 56.

England were then gifted a wicket when Mohammad Hafeez carelessly fell for a duck as he guided Broad straight to Root at second slip in the manner of a coach giving fielders catching practice.

Rahat Ali picked 3 wickets.

His back-off-a-length ball had England captain Alastair Cook (eight) edging through to wicket-keeper Sarfraz Ahmed.

The team beat England at London’s Lord’s ground in the first Test on Sunday.

But with a man set back for the shot, the star batsman fell into a hooking trap when he paddled a short ball from Rahat to Yasir Shah at deep square leg.

With England 47 for three it was left to Vince and Ballance to step in and add a modicum of calm, though England still face a severe challenge to move to victory.

James Vince too got off the mark with a cover-driven four off Rahat.

Shah was on two when he chipped Finn and a diving Stuart Broad just failed to cling on to a tough low chance at mid-off.

Yasir Shah returned the match haul of 10 for 141.

That saw Vince in his fourth match at this level, surpass his previous Test-best of 35 against Sri Lanka a Chester-le-Street in May.

And the Hampshire batsman made it five fours in six balls faced when an edge over point and more authoritative cut off leg-spinner Shah, England’s first-innings tormentor, took him to 39.

Ballance had just struck Yasir confidently to the boundary when he was bowled by a beauty, the ball jagging back from outside off stump after pitching in the rough.

Then Moeen Ali was the victim of some tight geometry when he almost got outside the line sweeping a ball which would very nearly have spun past the stumps – but had to go lbw anyway, on two counts of umpire’s call which put Yasir on the honours board.

The middle-order all flirted with a major, match-winning contribution but when Moeen Ali recklessly charged down the wicket only to be clean bowled by Yasir, England had slipped to 139-6.

Yasir took the plaudits but it was remarkable to see Amir bowl Jake Ball to win the match for Pakistan.

Yasir’s figures of 6-72 were the best recorded by a visiting spinner against England at Lord’s since Sid Pegler’s 7-65 for South Africa 104 years ago.
