Musharraf’s lawyers say he needs to go overseas for urgent spinal treatment not available in Pakistan.
The petitioner said the murder case of Ghazi and his mother was registered against Musharraf on the directives of the Islamabad High Court (IHC). He was indicted for treason a year ago over his imposition of emergency rule in 2007.
It has been further prayed to suspend the trial court’s 20th February order till the decision on appeal.
On Monday, he filed a medical certificate issued by Dr M Sohail Rafi, an Associate Professor of Dr Ziauddin Hospital stating that after examination he had recommended Mr Musharraf to undergo a special surgery since the kind of numbness and slight weakness he was feeling on his left foot puts him in the urgency to get this operation as soon as possible.
The former president is also on bail in connection with two other major cases: the 2007 assassination of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto and the killing of a prominent cleric. “If Musharraf really needed treatment then he should have taken it seriously instead of attending functions and television talk shows”, the petition said. He said that a trial court on March 16 issued non-bailable warrants for Musharraf’s arrest in the Abdul Rashid Ghazi murder case.
Musharraf pleaded not guilty to five counts of treason in April 2014.
The sessions court had noted that Musharraf’s counsel has miserably failed to substantiate that the ex-military chief is ‘unable to move or not capable to travel for appearing before the trial court.
