Rejecting Pakistan’s repeated demand to the United Nations over Kashmir, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon told Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif that Pakistan and India should address their outstanding issues, including Kashmir, through “dialogue”.

Reacting to the Pakistan Premier’s glorification of slain Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Burhan Wani in his address, the Union Minister asserted it was shocking that the leader of a nation can glorify a self declared, self- identified terrorist at such a forum.

Indian Foreign Ministry officials say they offered to provide evidence for a probe by Islamabad into the incident and asked Pakistan to live up to its commitment to refrain from supporting and sponsoring terrorism against India. “But India has posed unacceptable preconditions to engage in a dialogue”.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has addressed letters to the leadership of P-5 member states as well as the UN Secretary-General to draw attention of the global community to the Kashmir situation and to call upon India to immediately end violence in the Valley. “Terrorism is not just directed towards India now”, he said.

Taking a dig at Pakistan, Gambhir said, “We’ve heard Pakistan whose nuclear proliferation record is marked by deceit, talking about restraint, renunciation and peace”.

The Secretary of State, during an earlier meeting with Sharif, warned terrorists using Pakistan’s territory as a safe abode for conducting attacks across the world. “This is self incrimination”, Akbar said.

Lu said China is deeply concerned about the violence and casualties caused by attacks in the Kashmir region as well as the strained relations between India and Pakistan over this. As a democracy India is firmly resolved to protect all our citizens from all acts of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. He alleged atrocities in the Kashmir valley and said Pakistan “fully supports the demand of the Kashmiri people for self-determination”. “Perhaps renunciation of lies and self-restraint on threats could be a good place for Pakistan to start”, she concluded. His rhetorical question stems from Pakistan’s reticence in prosecuting those on its soil who India accuses of being involved in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, including Hafiz Saeed.

Syed Salahuddin also lauded the role of Turkey and China for backing Pakistan on Kashmir issue.

Nawaz told the gathering in NY that Pakistan had been the principal victim of terrorism, and the country had lost thousands of civilians and security officials in terrorism-related incidents.
