Pakistan press-up celebrations after first Test win over England

Yasir, the talismanic leg-spinner, bagged the Man of the Match award for taking a total of 10 wickets across two innings as England struggled to build partnerships and were eventually bundled out for 207 on the fourth day while chasing a target of 283 runs.

Victory saw Pakistan go 1-0 up in the four-match series ahead of the second Test at Old Trafford starting on Friday.

Others, like Gary Ballance, and particularly Jonny Bairstow and Chris Woakes, the pair adding 60 for the seventh wicket, kept hopes alive. Yasir Shah in first and second innings and the fast bowlers bowled really well.

Pakistan defeated England in the first test match on Sunday after Yasir Shah and Mohammad Amir sent home the bulk of the British batsmen to secure the victory for the country.

Cook showed promising early signs, only to fall prey to an excellent ball from Rahat with just eight on the board.

Jake Ball managed a couple of blows towards the covers, but Pakistan were already out of reach and after six balls his stumps were shattered by Amir’s yorker.

It could all be in vain though as Pakistan are in the driving seat, albeit still a few runs short of the total they would ideally have posted second time around.

Azhar Ali (23) survived a review for a catch at short leg and took Pakistan to 40 for one at the lunch break.

Yasir Shah was awarded the Player of the Match award for his ten wickets which helped set Pakistan up for the win.

This was the second time an England bowler took more than 10 wickets at Lord’s since 1978.

Cook’s opening partner Alex Hales made a brisk 16 before chasing a wide ball from Rahat outside off-stump, with Mohammad Hafeez holding a good catch at first slip.

But it was fellow left-arm quick Rahat who stunned England.

Marking their victory with an unusual celebration, the squad performed a series of press-ups as a tribute to Haq who became the oldest captain to score a Test century.

“We allowed Yasir to get six wickets when he wasn’t turning the ball”.

Due to their phenomenal performances during the match, Pakistan’s Test skipper Misbah-ul-Haq and Yasir Shah made it to the honours board with the latter being named the Man-of-the-Match.

Moeen Ali then charged down the pitch in an attempt to lift the legspinner, only to be bowled between bat and pad by a well-flighted one.

Pakistan began their second innings on Saturday after England were all-out for 272 on day three of the first Test against Pakistan at the Lord’s Cricket Ground on Saturday.

Yasir recorded the best figures by any visiting spinner at Lord’s since South Africa’s Sid Pegler in 1912, and Woakes finished stranded on an unbeaten 35 as England’s first innings lasted little more than a further half-hour on the resumption.
