Pakistan’s prime minister undergoes successful heart surgery

Nawaz Sharif, the Prime Minister of Pakistan will undergo an open heart surgery on Tuesday.

Sharif “was in high spirits” when he entered the operation theatre at about 8:00 am, his daughter, Maryam, said on her Twitter handle.

Maryam Nawaz Wednesday said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif would remain in intensive care unit (ICU) of the hospital for another 24 hours.

She said that the political opponents of her father were hatching conspiracies against him because they were afraid of the PML-N’s development agenda, which wold end load-shedding by 2018.

Sharif, 66, left for London earlier this week for medical check-ups where his doctors made a decision to carry out the surgery.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s entire family is now in London, to be by his side.

“The prime minister will travel after one week, on doctors permission”, he added.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani were among several world leaders who wished Sharif ahead of the surgery.

He thanked mothers, sisters, daughters, youth and elders of the nation who prayed day and night for successful operation of the PM and expressed hope that the prime minister would recover soon.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended best wishes to Sharif.

In a tweet posted on Saturday, Modi wished for the premier’s “speedy recovery and good health”.
