Pakistan’s Sharif says world ignores South Asia tensions at its peril
India on Thursday called Pakistan a “terrorist state” and accused it of carrying out “war crimes” against Indians through its “long-standing policy” of sponsoring terrorism, hours after Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif racked up Kashmir issue at the UN General Assembly session.

Nawaz Sharif met United Nations (UN) secretary general Ban Ki-moon and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Wednesday and told them about atrocities of Indian forces in Kashmir, reported Dunya News.
Glorifying Burhan Wani as a symbol of new “Kashmiri Intifada” that was led by the common Kashmiris, Nawaz Sharif demanded an “independent enquiry” into the “extrajudicial killings” in Kashmir.
In a strong rejection of Sharif’s assertion that violations of human rights are being committed by Indian forces in “occupied” Jammu and Kashmir, Akbar said “the only occupation in Jammu and Kashmir, which is a part of India, is the occupation of a part of Jammu and Kashmir by Pakistan occupation army”.
PM Nawaz Sharif continued to meet global leaders at the United Nations headquarters in NY. “The people of Kashmir have waited 70 years for implementation of this promise”, he said, adding that the United Nations must act on its promises.
Speaking about the Uri attack, Ram Madhav said, “At diplomatic level, befitting response to Pakistan has been given”.
The Pakistani prime minister said that he had “gone the extra mile to achieve this”, repeatedly offering a dialogue to address all outstanding issues.
“Let us be clear: talks are no favour to Pakistan”.
She said while Pakistan’s nuclear proliferation record is marked by “deception and deceit”, it talks about restraint, renunciation and peace. “They are essential to resolve our differences, especially the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, and to avert the danger of any escalation”.
“The effect of its toxic curriculum are felt across the globe”, she said, adding that it is ironical that a country which has established itself as the global epicentre of terrorism, is preaching human rights and talks about the ostensible support for self-determination. Peace between India and Pakistan – and normalisation – would not be possible without the Kashmir dispute being resolved, he added.
Government of India will take necessary actions and perpetrators of Uri Attack will not be spared, said BJP leader Ram Madhav. India has also upped the diplomatic heat on Islamabad ever since it openly fanned the flames of the ongoing unrest in Kashmir. “This not acceptable?” MEA spokesperson Vikas Swarup tweeted.
“Even today we have heard support by the Prime Minister of Pakistan for a self-acknowledged commander of a known terrorist organization Hizbul Mujahideen”.

Congressman Elliot Engel, Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said the Uri terror attack along with the bombings in NY and New Jersey “demonstrate our need to continue to work together through our” counter-terrorism partnership to defeat terrorism.
