According to sources, the Saudi Defence Minister will discuss security situation of the region.
According to a statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the Pakistani military, the deputy crown prince and Gen. Raheel Sharif met at the General Headquarters of the Pakistan Army.
The Saudi prince also attended a briefing on the progress and implementation of Pakistan’s National Action Plan to eliminate extremism and terrorism from its soil.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Sunday said Pakistan would standby Saudri Arabia in case of any threat to latter’s security.
Saudi Defence Minister’s visit to Pakistan was the second high-level visit after kingdom’s foreign minister’s visit.
Saudi Defence Minister said KSA attaches great importance to Pakistan and its armed forces and appreciates their successes in fight against terrorism and efforts for regional stability. He said Pakistan attached great importance to the security of Saudi Arabia and other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
The Prime Minister affirmed that people of Pakistan have bonds with the people of Saudi Arabia through historical, cultural and Islamic ties of brotherhood.
Pakistan had indicated it could consider the Saudi invitation to join the 34-nation coalition (proposed by Riyadh before the Iran spat).
The Saudi defence minister’s visit follows a two-day visit by the Saudi Foreign Minister Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir to Pakistan last week.
Pakistani Foreign Affairs Adviser Sartaj Aziz, for his part, has offered to play a “mediatory role” between Riyadh and Tehran at an “appropriate time”.
