Media reports from Pakistan suggest that by Saturday afternoon, 20 MQM offices were razed and a total of 200 “sector and unit” offices in Karachi were locked up.

Meanwhile, MQM leaders Farooq Sattar and Izharul Hasan today broke all ties with their party leader Hussain and emotionally denounced the arrest and detention of women workers and bulldozing of party offices.

The party has long dominated the city through the loyal support of Karachi’s Muhajir community – relatively well-off Urdu speakers who migrated from India after Independence in 1947, and their descendants.
