Pakistan take 5th ODI to avoid series sweep by England

While former captain, Muhammad Yousuf believes that no more time should be wasted in making necessary changes, former captain, Rashid Latif appears to have a different view as he believes Pakistan cricket is not dead in ODI and T20 formats and the young players need to be given more time.

Sarfraz Ahmed made a classy 90 as Pakistan achieved a consolation four-wicket win in the fifth and final One-Day International in Cardiff on Sunday (September 4).

The win at Headingley on Thursday was as impressive as any other during the series. England are 203 for 4 at the end of 34 overs.

England struck a world record on Tuesday (August 30) with the highest one-day global total of 444 for three as they crushed Pakistan by 169 runs at Trent Bridge on Tuesday to take an unbeatable 3-0 lead in the five-match series.

Pakistan, in reply, were bowled out for 275 in 42.4 overs with paceman Chris Woakes the chief destroyer, taking four for 41.

He said: “I’m looking forward to seeing that place as well because I haven’t been there for a while”. The mood in the ODI camp will be completely different to the one that prevailed in the Misbah-ul-Haq-led side, which stole the show not just with its cricketing skills but with the off-the-field theatrics after clinching victories in the recently concluded Test series.

Tough day: Liam Dawson had a debut to forget for England in the fifth ODI.

“Definitely Mickey was unhappy and as bowling coach I was unhappy as well”. He is using the series to assess his squad but he can not have been pleased with what he has seen so far. We just don’t have the players to do that within our group of 15 at the moment.

Pakistan have been able to win only one ODI in the seven they have played so far in 2016.

Last month International Cricket Council chief executive David Richardson welcomed England’s decision to go ahead with their tour of Bangladesh by saying: “It is important to the global game of cricket that it can be played safely in as many countries as possible”.

“We needed a partnership, we knew he [Dawson] was playing his first match so that’s why we tried to play positively”.

Roy, who had struck Irfan for two back to back boundaries before falling, made 14 off 11 balls with three fours. Imad was born in Swansea, so the return to Wales will be a homecoming of sorts.

Having won all four matches before crossing the Severn Bridge for the final ODI, England had high hopes of a famous five in the Welsh capital. The best course of action may be to pick the same team and see if some consistency will help. You’ve got to ask questions because, if you don’t, you don’t have peace of mind.

The giant left-arm fast bowler, himself an injury replacement, only managed five overs in Leeds before being sidelined with cramp. The forecast for the match itself is set fair.
