When asked why the government has been unable to convene an all parties conference (APC) on Kashmir violence, Aziz said political consensus already existed among all political parties on Kashmir, hence there was no need to convene the meeting.

Describing the youth of Kashmir as “patriots”, he said in “there is an attempt to misguide some” of them and a “mindset that stokes baseless anger against India”.

Referring to a special meeting of the federal cabinet on July 15, the advisor said the prime minister had announced observing a “black day” at the national level.

India on Thursday slammed Pakistan for its observance of “Kashmir’s Accession to Pakistan Day”, saying it exposes Pakistan’s “longing for the territory of Jammu and Kashmir” and demanded that Pakistan must vacate its “illegal occupation of POK (Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir)”.

Clashes in Kashmir erupted after Burhan Wani, a top figure in the pro-independence Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) group, was killed along with two others in a shootout with Indian troopers on July 8. “The participants urged the Secretary General of the United Nations to encourage, facilitate and support efforts leading to a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue in accordance with the UN Security Council Resolutions to ensure resolution of this longstanding unresolved issue”, the Pakistan High Commission said.

Many Indian officials believe that Pakistan is funding and supporting terrorism in Kashmir, which would not be surprising since India and Pakistan have found three wars over Kashmir. The government asked Pakistan not to mislead the global community and Kashmiris through “meaningless exercises such as the so-called elections today in PoK which Pakistan ironically Azad’ (free)”.
