“Terrorists are using innovating measures by hitting soft targets and one must respond in an advanced coordinated way”, Nawaz said Monday while presiding over an emergency meeting at Balochistan Governor Secretariat where he was briefed on the situation triggered by the deadly blast at the Civil Hospital.
The high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif pertaining to the implementation of the National Action Plan on Wednesday, concluded with the consensus that there was a need to improve the intelligence mechanism between the federation and provinces.
According to sources, the meeting made a decision to take strict measures to stop terrorists’ financial support.
He said a meeting of religious scholars will be summoned to discuss the matter.
Quetta blast, which also left more than 100 people injured, was an indication of the hate that terrorists harboured towards every institution of the state, Sharif said.
“No doubt the enemies of Pakistan are after the CPEC (China-Pakistan Economic Corridor) project”, he said.
The motive behind the attack was unclear, but several lawyers have been targeted during a recent spate of killings in Quetta, the provincial capital of Balochistan, which has a history of militant and separatist violence.
The COAS also directed commanders to provide all the necessary assistance to provincial law enforcement agencies in their capacity building through training, resourcing and planning so as to integrate them effectively in counter terrorism operations.
