At least 35 civilians have been killed and more than 2,500 wounded in pro-independence demonstrations triggered by the killing of a Kashmiri militant commander, Burhan Muzaffar Wani, in a gun battle with security forces last week.

“At the United Nations, Pakistan called for an independent and transparent inquiry into the extra judicial killings in Indian occupied Kashmir, calling the situation there a grave threat to peace and security”, it said.

The meeting reiterated Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) commitment to raise the burning issue of Kashmir on the global front.

The leaders thanked Pakistanis for their solidarity and appealed to Kashmiris locally and overseas to observe the “black day” called by Sharif, said a joint statement by Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik issued in Srinagar.

RENEWED Intifada of Kashmiris has sent a loud and clear message to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi that his agenda to shun talks and instead rely exclusively on suppressive tactics to address the longstanding dispute, would not work and that Kashmiris are determined to fight back come what may for their legitimate struggle for right to self-determination.

Earlier at a high-level UN General Assembly (UNGA) debate on “Human Rights at the Centre of the Global Agenda”, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative Maleeha Lodhi accused India of human rights violations in Kashmir and of carrying out an “extra-judicial killing of a person” she described as a “Kashmiri leader”.

India also asked Pakistan to stop destabilizing the situation in the region through support to terrorism and other subversive acts.

A militant with a $10 million US bounty on his head, who is also one of the most wanted men in India, walks free in Pakistan, giving public speeches criticizing Washington and New Delhi, the Associated Press reported Friday.

Those at the rally offered funeral prayers for Wani, while around 150 HM fighters donned commando-style uniforms with headbands inscribed with the words “Freedom of Martyrdom”. For months before his death he made nimble use of social media to attract and recruit young, educated men for the Hizbul Mujahideen, the largest terror group in Kashmir.

Meanwhile, Pakistan briefed the ambassadors of African and Middle Eastern countries over the tense situation in Kashmir.
