Pakistan will meet Hurriyat leaders

Spokesman Qazi Khalilullah when asked about the recent spate of firing along the Line of Control and the Working Boundary by India said, so far there have been 70 such incidents and Pakistan has been regularly protesting to India through their High Commission. Pro-independence leaders of Kashmir are expected to be detained again while leaving for Delhi or immediately after they land in Delhi, Indian media reports said.

“The game plan is very clear – scuttle the talks”, said one source.

However, throughout this entire period, Pakistan has remained consistent.

“I believe this is an area where India, Pakistan have talked”. So whatever else Pakistan may be blamed of, it can not be accused of inconsistency.

Afghanistan’s new President, Ashraf Ghani, acknowledged this when he visited Pakistan five months before visiting India, hard on the heels of his visit to China.

There are UN Security Council’s resolutions on Jammu Kashmir, which call for right to self-determination for Kashmiris through free and impartial plebiscite under the UN auspices.

A part of Kashmir is also held by China. “A decision on whether to accept the invitation will be taken at a meeting of the Hurriyat Conference”.

The global community, particularly the United States, thought that Modi’s disengagement with Pakistan was cause for alarm.

On Thursday, Pakistan indicated it was going ahead with the Hurriyat talks.

But in an attempt to paper over its own inconsistency in dealing with Pakistan, it is now trying to show the Hurriyat’s presence as a Pakistan attempt to scuttle the talks.
