On 23 July, Sushma Swaraj retaliated to Nawaz Sharif’s declaration stating that Pakistan awaits the day Kashmir is going to be a part of its territory, saying that their hopes would never materialize.

Nawaz Sharif said he never discriminated between Pakistan and AJK and recalled that the PML-N had recently obtained two-thirds majority in the elections of the Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly.

In a strong-worded riposte to Pakistan PM’s critical comments on Kashmir, Swaraj said, “Pakistan fuelling violence in Kashmir”.

In his first public address following an open heart surgery earlier this year, Sharif urged Kashmiris “not to forget those in (Indian) held Kashmir who are sacrificing their lives for freedom”. You are aware of how they are being beaten and killed. “Pakistan will not abandon Kashmiris struggle to right to self-determination”, he said while addressing a rally in Muzaffarabad.

Prime Minister Sharif reiterated that the only solution to the Kashmir issue would be “early implementation of UNSC resolutions”.

“A day will come when Kashmir will accede to Pakistan”.

The PML-N government would develop a network of motorways and highways besides spending a huge amount on education and health sectors, he said and appreciated his team for successful electioneering in Azad Kashmir including Senator Pervaiz Rashid, Dr Syed Asif Saeed Kirmani, Barjis Tahir, Raja Farooq Haider and local party leaders though he himself was unable to take part in the campaign.

Street clashes between those protesting Wani’s killing and the security forces have left over 45 people dead and hundreds injured.
