Pakistani military arrests 5 suspects in university attack

The Bacha Khan University opened its doors for students a week after an attack on the campus claimed the lives of 21 people. Lieutenant General Bajwa also revealed how Adil’s niece and wife were used in the terrorist attack. He said that facilitators Adil and Riaz helped in purchasing weapons from Darra Adam Khel and supplying to Mardan through family ladies. “The attackers had entered Pakistan from Afghanistan via the Torkhum border”, Bajwa said. Once inside Pakistan, the attackers received 10 phone calls from individuals in Afghanistan.

“The attackers were prepared in Afghanistan”, army spokesman Bajwa said.

DG said that five facilitators have been identified as Riaz, Noorullah, Adil, Zia and Ibrahim.

The Punjab government also issued orders for foolproof security arrangements in public, private, missionary, armed forces, multinational schools, colleges and universities.

The video, which spread rapidly on Facebook but was not released on official media accounts for the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistani (TTP), shows Khalifa Umar Mansoor, whose faction claimed responsibility for the attack on Bacha Khan university Wednesday.

On Sunday, Vice-Chancellor of the Bacha Khan University Dr Fazal-ur-Rahim Marwat said the university would reopen for staff on Monday and that classes will resume shortly. “He drew the map of university and remained involved in planning the attack”.

Since 2004, the United States government has attacked hundreds of targets in Northwest Pakistan using drones controlled by the Central Intelligence Agency’s Special Activities Division. General Bajwa opined that terrorism was a global challenge that many countries are confronted with this challenge stressing the world will have to combat this challenge together.

The attack last Wednesday triggered a gunbattle that lasted for hours until all four militants who took part in the raid were killed. “We need not be disappointed by terrorist attacks”.
