Pakistani model strangled by brother in so-called honor killing
She had chosen Qandeel Baloch as her pseudonym after stepping into modelling. Baloch was arrested late Saturday by police from Dera Ghazi Khan where he fled after murdering Qandeel Baloch.

Baloch’s father had told local media his son had stayed overnight at the family home and quarrelled with Baloch over money and her risque photos.
Police are still on the heels of her brother Wasim who is on the run.
PTI reported Waseem as saying, “She wasn’t aware I was killing her. I gave her a tablet and then strangled her”.
Waseem said he acted alone. “The last I called her for an interview, she was crying on the phone”, he said. “Whatever was the case, it [Qandeel’s actions] was completely intolerable“. “Rest in peace, Qandeel Baloch, may you find justice in death”. The so-called “honour killings” are often carried out by family members.
“I really feel that no woman is safe in this country”, A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy told AFP news agency, condemning Baloch’s murder.
Police said the brother had escaped to Dera Ghazi Khan after the killing in the Karimabad area of Multan early on Saturday morning.
Most recently, she posted on her Twitter encouraging women to stand up for themselves and trying to inspire them to never be ashamed of who they are. “When will it stop?”

A highly divisive figure, she famously pledged to perform a striptease for Pakistan’s cricket team if it beat India in the recent cricket T20 World Cup, but claimed to campaign for women’s rights. And Baloch’s parents have been taken into protective care, according to the Tribune. Despite Qandeel being a “family breadwinner” Azeem found her actions “unbearable” and even says if he didn’t kill her he was considering committing suicide to end the embarrassment he was feeling on behalf of his entire family.
