Pakistani police question cleric, cousin of murdered model

In the light of these disclosures, police have chose to broaden the scope of its investigation, which so far has included the family members of Qandeel Baloch while one of her cousins, who is now living in Dubai, was also likely to be made part of the investigation. The test was conducted on both the suspects-Muhammad Waseem and Qandeel’s cousin brother, Haq Nawaz.

Waseem had stated in a polygraph test in Lahore earlier this month that he grabbed her arms while Haq Nawaz strangled her. Before committing the crime, the suspects had drugged the victim and her parents, the report added.

During interrogation, Nawaz revealed that besides Baloch’s younger brother Waseem, his brother Arif who resides in Saudi Arabia was also part of the conspiracy and the plan was hatched overseas.

Earlier, Haq Nawaz had named another four relatives who allegedly abetted her murder for “honour”.

Prior to her death Qandeel, whose real name was Fauzia Azeem, spoke of worries about her safety and had appealed to the interior ministry to provide her with security for protection. She faced frequent abuse and death threats but continued to post controversial pictures and videos.

Mufti Abdul Qavi did not appear before police on Friday to record his statement for the ongoing investigation of the murder of model Qandeel Baloch.
