Honor killings remain a common practice in Pakistan, with more than 500 victims – a lot of them women – of such killings each year, reported Al Jazeera.

Qandeel Baloch, was known for posting videos on social media websites, was also married to a person named Aashiq Hussain, a native of Kot Addu, but got divorced.

While he was being quizzed by cops as to why he would’ve committed such an atrocity, The Dawn claims he pointed to a picture she took with the cleric, Mufti Abdul Qavi.

Waseem said that Qandeel has defamed the name of Balochis due to which he murdered her. He said that he strangled Qandeel to death after giving her sleeping pills.

Azeen told local media that Waseem had stayed overnight at the family home and quarrelled with Baloch over money and her racy photos.

“Yes, of course, I strangled her”, Waseem confessed in a press conference. He was later presented before media where he confessed that he drugged and strangled his sister. He continued that “it was around 10.45 pm when I gave her a tablet… and then killed her”, adding that he acted alone.

Wsaeem was recorded saying, “She was bringing disrepute to our family’s honour and I could not tolerate it any further”.

Qandeel’s brother had been threatening her over her Facebook posts and videos, said the police.

The brother, police said, is now on the run.

According to city police chief Azhar Akram, Waseem had killed her by covering her mouth and nose. The police suspect her brother, Waseem Ahmed Azeem, of killing Baloch.

She had expressed her desire many times to marry ex-cricketer and opposition politician Imran Khan.
