Palace strike early, cruise past struggling Stoke City

Palace took the lead inside 11 first half minutes thanks to quick-fire goals from James Tomkins and Scott Dann, and James McArthur made it three before Townsend’s strike and a consolation goal for Stoke from Marko Arnautovic.

“The Premier League is about small margins”.

After watching his side record a 4-1 drubbing over Stoke City on a superb Sunday for the Eagles, manager Alan Pardew is aiming for consistency after back-to-back wins.

The Potters now prop up the Premier League after four defeats and a draw from their opening five games – conceding four goals in three of those – after consecutive ninth-place finishes.

They also learnt earlier this week that Pape Souare’s injuries, following a vehicle crash, could rule him out for much of the season. Bony had already missed the game’s finest chance when slipping over directly in front of goal when he sent a low cross towards Arnautovic, from where the forward classily finished towards the top right. “We are two proud players and I think pride is enough”. All teams, whatever style of football they pursue, need to be able to deal with set pieces. “They will be absolutely fine, they have a great squad and a great manager”. We haven’t really got going yet. “We have an opportunity on Wednesday (against Hull) and Saturday (against West Brom) to turn things round very quickly”.

Easily one of his best performance in a Palace shirt, Townsend was a constant threat all game. He believes, however, Hughes would arrest Stoke’s slide.

Furious Mark Hughes threatened ALL his players with the axe after a fourth consecutive Premier League defeat for Stoke City, Ryan Shawcross has revealed.

“When you have the pace in the side that we have we are so unsafe, we have pace and quality that is backed up by Christian [Benteke] being up top he becomes a point for us to hit and with him being at top clubs we know what he brings to our side”.
