Palestinian assailant killed in stabbing attack
The violence, much of it carried out spontaneously by young Palestinians, has killed 19 Israelis and an American since Oct 1.

A Palestinian stabbed an Israeli in the neck in the southern West Bank on Wednesday and was shot dead by forces at the scene, the army and a hospital said. He brandished the knife while running toward the soldiers yelling “Allahu akbar”, or God is great, according to police.
The deaths come a day after a Palestinian was shot and killed by Israeli forces after stabbing and seriously wounding an Israeli soldier in the West Bank.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) is opting for cautious, defensive responses to sustained Palestinian “lone-wolf” attacks. Kerry mentioned Schwartz twice by name.
“Such a family is aware of the fact that one of its members is a radical, and anyone who is about to [carry out an] attack – such a family has no right to work in Israel”, Netanyahu said.
An Israeli official said Netanyahu complained to Kerry about alleged Palestinian incitement and said any confidence-building gestures for the Palestinians would first require calm.
Tsipra also expressed support for the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with sovereignty on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The officer told the website that he believed it is “a limited uprising, in which the Palestinians are aiming to change the existing situation”, and that he believes that the current wave of terror will continue for two further months.
Later on Tuesday, Kerry also held talks with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
The Palestinians say the violence is rooted in frustration over almost a half century of Israeli occupation and lack of hope for obtaining independence.
Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank are seen as illegal under worldwide law and major stumbling blocks to peace efforts since they are built on land Palestinians see as part of their future state.

America’s broader concerns are the same and Kerry almost surely pressed both sides in private to avoid provocative actions. Palestinians accuse Israel of using excessive force in suppressing violence.
