Palestinian assailants killed by Israeli army in shootout

While no Israelis were injured in the alleged attack, the two teens were targeted and shot dead at the scene.

Several Palestinians gathered closed to the scene of the attack, near the Tomb of the Patriarchs, attempting to approach the Palestinian assailant who was shot and seriously wounded by Israeli forces.

The two 15-year-olds were killed after attacking Israeli soldiers in Jenin, near the West Bank on Sunday (14 February).

Later at a checkpoint, Israeli police say a Palestinian youth with a knife ran at officers as they checked cars entering Jerusalem.

The Palestinian health ministry confirmed that a woman was killed but could not immediately give her age or name.

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power reiterated Saturday her country’s commitment to advancing a two-state solution as well as a peaceful resolution for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, as she arrived in Israel for a series of high-level diplomatic talks.

The violence has been driven by Palestinian anger over Israel’s occupation of the West Bank and disputes over access to the Al Aqsa mosque compound in the Old City of Jerusalem. Palestinians say it stems from frustration at almost five decades of Israeli rule and dwindling hopes for gaining independence.

Also Sunday, a watchdog group said Israel began building 1,800 new settlement homes in the West Bank in 2015.
