Palestinian driver rams Israeli soldiers in West Bank, shot dead

Palestinian security sources identified him as Issa Haroub from the village of Der Samat, west of Hebron.

The Palestinian health ministry said Sami Maadi, 41, died in the incident, east of the Al-Bureij refugee camp.

The health ministry said that the Palestinian death toll climbed to 121 since the outbreak of the current wave of violent tension between Israel and the Palestinians in the Palestinian territories early October. There were no Israelis injured in the attack at the Gilboa crossing near Jenin, according to ministry spokeswoman Arielle Heffez.

Separately, in central Ramallah, Israeli security forces raided a shop early Friday, leading to clashes between residents and soldiers, witnesses said. The military identified the suspect as Mahmad Abd El Halim Abd El Hamid Salam.

In some previous car-ramming attacks, the driver then emerged to try to stab Israelis.

Israel has withheld the corpses of many attackers, a policy authorities say acts as a deterrent but critics argue leads to more anger.
