“Under worldwide law, Israel is responsible for meeting the needs of Palestinians living under its occupation and for facilitating humanitarian assistance, not for obstructing aid and pressuring residents to leave so that Israeli settlements can expand”, Piper said in a statement.
Last week’s incidents inside of Israeli settlements and Saturday’s alleged attack at the Anatot settlement come after the majority of attacks to take place this month were carried out on military personnel near checkpoints.
The area of almost 154 hectares, which already has Israeli settlement farms, is located near the Palestinian city of Jericho in the Jordan Valley.
U.S. State Department spokesman John Kirby said on Wednesday that Shapiro was simply reiterating U.S. policy on Israeli settlement construction. “This should be a reason for a real and effective intervention by the global community to end such a flagrant and grave aggression which kills all chances of peace”.
Israel has thwarted a new Jewish settlement attempt in a historic town in the occupied West Bank.
Ministers and members of parliament from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party decried Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon’s refusal to sign off on the settlers’ occupancy of the homes in Hebron. It could potentially split the West Bank, cutting Palestinians off from East Jerusalem, which they seek for their capital.
Israel captured the West Bank in the 1967 war, along with east Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip, territories the Palestinians want for their hoped-for state. The Palestinians are adamantly opposed.
Violence has escalated since October, with 25 Israelis, an Eritrean and a US citizen killed in stabbings, shooting and car-rammings, and at least 150 Palestinians – including 94 that Israel says were assailants – killed in Israeli military operations.
Another Palestinian was shot in the foot with live fire when clashes broke out with Israeli forces near the Nahal Oz checkpoint.

“The Israel Police officers who do keep terrorist Palestinians alive should be prosecuted under the law”. Shin Bet said in a statement that Hezbollah is trying to “ride the wave” of ongoing Palestinian attacks on Israelis.
