A Palestinian driver ran over and injured two Israeli soldiers in the West Bank Friday before being shot dead, Israeli security services said.
In Friday’s attacks, a Palestinian stabbed and wounded a soldier near Ramallah in the West Bank, the military said. “In response to the threat, forces fired at the attackers, resulting in their deaths”.
The developments came as two Palestinians were shot and killed following separate attacks on Israelis on Thursday.
More than two months of Palestinian knifings, car-rammings and occasionally shootings have killed 19 Israelis and a USA citizen.
Since 1 October, 110 Palestinians have been killed along with 21 Israelis, an American, and an Eritrean.
Israel’s military said an “Israeli was stabbed and wounded northwest of Ramallah” and the assailant was shot at the scene.
“The hospital of course has no financial claim against the Dawabsheh family… but it is clear that someone will have to bear the high costs of treatment and this will be dealt with by Israeli authorities”, a Tel Hashomer hospital spokeswoman said. The assailants carried out the attack in revenge for the 2014 killing of three Israeli teenagers in the West Bank, prosecutors said. Palestinians say it stems from a lack of hope of gaining statehood.
The IDF Spokespersons Unit reported that the gunman exited his auto on the approach to the checkpoint, and opened fire on the soldiers. The assailant, a 21-year-old Palestinian male, was shot and killed.
The Shin Bet, Israel’s internal security agency, said Thursday it had arrested a number of youths belonging to a “Jewish terrorist” organization and that interrogators were checking “concrete suspicions” they were connected to the Duma attack.
Most of the violence has been in the occupied West Bank but there have been semi-regular protests in the Gaza Strip.
