Palestinian killed for ramming auto into soldiers
The plan for more than 8,000 homes in E1, near the illegal Ma’ale Adumim settlement near Jerusalem, was shelved by the Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu in 2013 after Palestinian activists set up a tent city named “Bab al-Shams” to prevent construction.

The Palestinians strongly object to settlement of the area, saying it would separate a future Palestinian state in the West Bank from east Jerusalem, their hoped-for capital, and drive a wedge between the northern and southern flanks of the West Bank.
The new evidence, some 200 pages Peace Now obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request, shows that for the past year, Israel’s Ministry of Housing has been actively working outside of the public’s eye to advance plans for 55,548 new homes in West Bank settlements.
“They must be approved by the minister of defence and then go through the approval process of the planning authority”, the English-language report said. The latest round of US-brokered peace talks collapsed in April 2014.
“The implementation of these plans may bring about separation of East Jerusalem from the Palestinian territories and the split of the West Bank into isolated enclaves”, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

It later annexed east Jerusalem in a move never recognised by the global community. Israeli leaders have been upset over the EU’s recent decision to require labels on imported products made in West Bank settlements.
A main target of the bill appeared to be Breaking the Silence, a group of former Israeli combat soldiers who criticize Israeli policies in the occupied West Bank.
Twenty-three Israelis and one USA citizen have died amid the ongoing wave of violence, which started in October, in lone wolf stabbing, shooting and vehicular attacks by Palestinians.

Later in Jerusalem, police forces fired tear gas to disperse several dozen protesters who were demanding that Israel hand over the bodies of Palestinians killed in attacks or during clashes with Israeli troops.
