Palestinian Rioters Set Fire To Joseph’s Tomb In West Bank

“No, Joseph’s Tomb did not “catch fire.’ Palestinians set it on fire”.

The fire started when 100 Palestinians attacked the tomb throwing Molotov cocktails at the compound.

Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas condemned the arson and said the site would be repaired. He formed a committee to investigate the fire. Joseph is believed to have been buried well after his death in what is now Nablus, in the northern West Bank.

“IDF spokesman Lt. Col. Peter Lerner said: ‘The burning and desecration of Joseph’s tomb…is a blatant violation and contradiction of the basic value of freedom of worship”.

Tensions and violence have been mounting in recent weeks, in part fueled by Palestinian fears that Israel is trying to expand its presence at a major Muslim-run shrine in Jerusalem. There’s been little letup in the bloodshed or agreement on who is to blame.

The last time soldiers deployed in such large numbers was in 2002, during the second Palestinian uprising, or intifada, according to a security source.

The shootings, they added, had occurred when the Palestinians posed no physical threat to security forces. Also wrote One Country: A Bold-Proposal to End the Israeli-Palestinian Impasse.

In the past month, eight Israelis died in 30 attacks with knives and other weapons that wounded many more.

Shalom named Abed, who survived the shooting, as one of two Palestinian citizens he wanted to strip of their citizenship. They said the images violated Israel’s juvenile and privacy laws, and the hospital’s involvement was a severe breach of medical ethics.

A tinder-box for Israeli-Palestinian conflict, it is the third holiest site in Islam and the holiest in Judaism.

At Jordan’s request, the 15-member United Nations Security Council met Friday to discuss the situation.

“It’s critical that we prevent them and respond”. The recent attacks have largely been carried out by individuals with no ties to militant groups.

But Israel asserts that Hamas is responsible for everything that happens in Gaza.

Joseph’s Tomb has been the scene of recurring violence between Israelis and Palestinians. Then Mahash conducted a few investigations, even if they were deeply flawed. “We’ve urged Israelis to be vigilant”.

On Friday, hundreds joined protests after Muslim noon prayers, after Palestinian factions called for a “day of rage”.

But right now, ‘everybody needs to focus on making sure that innocent people aren’t being killed’.

Palestinian resentments are hardly new, but Israelis and Palestinians have had better relations at times.

Following the restrictions, four Israelis were killed in two separate attacks blamed on Palestinians.

Recent developments have made things worse.

At Temple Mount in Jerusalem on Friday, Israeli police were only granting men over the age of 40 access to the holy site for “security reasons”.

Clashes at the site have become common.

The last attempt at negotiations stalled in 2014.

Obama’s comments at a press conference Friday appear to walk back the timid criticisms offered by the State Department earlier this week over Israel’s use of “excessive force” against Palestinians. Elliott Abrams said eyewash to that pointing out there has no dramatic population increase or size of the settlements.

“In the current atmosphere, the call by politicians for Israeli civilians to arm themselves constitutes incitement to kill Palestinians for no reason”, said Bishara, of Adalah.
