Israeli forces have shot and killed another Palestinian after accusing him of carrying out a stabbing attack in the occupied West Bank. The man was later taken to hospital for treatment.

Alaa Abu Jamal rammed his auto into pedestrians and then stabbed people, killing one.

Baha Elayyan opened fire on passengers on a bus, killing three people.

Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu in November vowed to expedite punitive house demolitions in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, which he said were “one of the most efficient tools” in discouraging Palestinian attacks.

Israeli security forces had earlier demolished and sealed off the Jerusalem homes of two Palestinians involved in deadly attacks against Israelis in the city a year ago.

Police and special forces are still searching for the accused shooter in that attack, Nashat Milhem, an Arab from northern Israel who is considered to be armed and unsafe.

At least 142 Palestinians have been killed by Israelis since October 1, according to the Palestian news agency Maan.

Violence since the start of October has claimed the lives of 140 on the Palestinian side, as well as 22 Israelis, an American and an Eritrean.

The surge in violence has been fueled by Palestinians’ frustration over Israel’s 48-year occupation of land they seek for an independent state, and the expansion of settlements in those territories which were captured by Israel in the 1967 Middle East war.
