De Villiers, increasingly the player South Africa look for to inspire success, will now be able to concentrate on his batting. Wicketkeeper Quinton De Kock is likely to be included in order to allow AB de Villiers to relinquish the gloves.

The surge in violence has been fuelled by Palestinians’ frustration over Israel’s 48-year occupation of land they seek for an independent state, and the expansion of settlements in those territories which were captured by Israel in the 1967 Middle East war.

It later annexed east Jerusalem in a move never recognised by the worldwide community.

Later in Jerusalem, police forces fired tear gas to disperse several dozen protesters who were demanding that Israel hand over the bodies of Palestinians killed in attacks or during clashes with Israeli troops.

Israel has returned the bodies of three more Palestinians killed while carrying out attacks on Israeli targets, the Palestinian news agency Maan reported Tuesday.

The Israeli military said a Palestinian drove his vehicle into a group of soldiers, injuring one of them, on a road by the village of Hawara, near the West Bank city of Nablus.

The bill also comes at a time of heightened tension between Israelis and Palestinians and frequent attacks, of which two occurred Sunday.
