Palestinian siblings armed with knives shot dead by Israeli troops at checkpoint

When they were ordered to stop, the woman pulled a knife out of her bag and waved it at an officer near her, the police statement said.

“The suspects continued quickly in the direction of the police forces”, she said, leading them to open fire and kill them.

The Palestinian news agency Maan identified one of the fatalities as a 24-year-old woman named Maram Salih Hassan Abu Ismail.

Police, who have been on high alert during the current Jewish Passover holiday week, issued a photograph of three knives on the ground which they said the two had been carrying.

Speaking on Sunday at a Nazareth forum on the treaty of Palestinian national unity, a document written by central Palestinian figures, Zoabi praised what she defined as “the Palestinian espousal of a sober attitude towards Israel, after they understand that Israel is not a partner for peace”.

During a visit to the West Bank city of Hebron on Monday, Deputy Defense Minister Eli Ben-Dahan said Israeli law should be applied in the territory.

Israeli police on Tuesday ejected nine Jews from the flashpoint Al-Aqsa compound in east Jerusalem for flouting the site’s rules and briefly detained two Palestinians who attacked Jewish visitors.

Since September, 28 Israelis and two Americans have been killed by Palestinians, while some 200 Palestinians have been killed by Israelis, mostly in what Israel says were attacks or attempted attacks. Many others were shot dead in clashes and protests.
