Palestinian teen killed and dozens injured by Israeli army

Severe Israeli restrictions on Palestinian development in Area C, including a rise in demolitions of homes – some of them EU-funded buildings – have created diplomatic tensions.

The dead youth was identified as Mohammed Hashhash.

The clashes followed an operation by the Israeli security forces in the camp, searching for wanted Palestinians who allegedly planned attacks against Israel, according to Israel Radio. No Israeli troops were hurt, the military said.

One of the cell’s members was arrested in March, the dates of others’ arrests were not disclosed, the Israeli military said, adding that information on the anti-terror operation was classified till recently.

Residents of Fawwar said the stone-throwing continued all day.

Israeli security forces arrested several suspected terrorists in the northern West Bank overnight Thursday and found thousands of shekels in cash as well as grenades and a shotgun during a search of the suspects’ homes.

The CCTV footage, recently released by Ramallah News, shows the Israeli army jeep pulling up briefly to where the young men are sitting and then swiftly driving away after throw something at the group.

Abu Hashhash is the first Palestinian fatality this month in a confrontation with Israeli forces.

At least half of those who have been killed since October died during protests and clashes and were not armed.

Israeli leaders accuse the Palestinian National Authority of inciting violence, whereas the Palestinians say it is the result of 49 years of Israeli occupation and the dim prospects of establishing an independent Palestinian state. Most countries view the settlements as illegal.
