The spokeswoman said the troops had conducted “activity to uncover weaponry” in the camp when “dozens of Palestinians hurled IEDs (improvised explosive devices), blocks and rocks” at them.
More than 7,000 Palestinian prisoners, among them 350 children, are now held in some 17 Israeli jails.
They added that clashes had erupted between Palestinian youths and Israeli army troops after the arrest of Abu Quaik and five other camp residents.
According to eyewitnesses, Israeli forces on Tuesday staged an incursion into the Al-Fawar refugee camp near Hebron, searching several homes and detaining at least one Palestinian. The military says forces fired back at the main instigators. The Shin Bet said Hezbollah has also attempted to recruit Arab citizens of Israel via pro-Palestinian Facebook pages.
“Israeli authorities always claim that buildings are closed down or demolished because they were built without permits”.
Palestinian supporters of the Fatah movement attend a rally on the outskirts of the West Bank city of Ramallah on May 06, 2014.
An ambulance transporting a young man who had been seriously injured in the scuffles was allegedly stopped by Israeli forces from leaving the camp for about an hour, the Maan agency said, citing locals.
However, at least half of those who have been killed since October died during protests and clashes and were not armed.
Since mid-September, Palestinians have killed 34 Israelis and two visiting Americans in stabbing and shooting attacks, as well as attack in which cars were used to ram into Israeli troops and civilians.
