Rubio criticized Trump for suggesting that Israelis must be willing to sacrifice in order to secure a peace deal with the Palestinian Authority. A Palestinian gunman fired at a checkpoint near Jerusalem, wounding a soldier and a bystander before being shot dead by soldiers, police and the military said.

Rescue services said one person suffered both stabbing and bullet wounds, and Rosenfeld said the latter was likely a result of accidental police fire, with the officer hit in the ankle.

The Palestinian health ministry said in an e-mailed press statement that Abdul Rahman Barghouti (27), was shot dead by Israeli troops’ gunfire in the village of Aabood, north of the West Bank city of Ramallah.

Over the past two months, unrest has surged, with nearly daily stabbings, vehicle rammings and shootings by Palestinians, which have killed 19 Israelis and one USA citizen.

Israeli security forces have killed more than 100 Palestinians, the majority of whom were shot after attacking Israelis.

“We have confirmed that a number of suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident that took place in Duma”, Israeli police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said. He was later identified as Abdel Rahman Barghouti, 26, a Palestinian resident of Abud.

But Palestinians have slammed Israel’s slow response in finding those who were responsible for the arson attack, saying that the lack of progress in the case is a symbol of an unfair system that discriminates against them.

Officials said that investigators are checking “concrete suspicions” that those arrested were involved in the fatal attack.
