Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon on Friday told Israelis to be prepared for more attacks by Palestinians.
Israeli official sources said the Palestinian purposely drove his auto into a bus stop on Friday morning, and was shot dead as a result.
“Yahya Taha, 21, from the village of Qatanna… died after he was shot and wounded in the head during clashes”, a ministry statement said, referring to an area northwest of Jerusalem.
He said the wall would fill in a gap in the barrier Israel began building in the early 2000s in response to Palestinian attacks.
Despite heightened security, according to a senior military officer, the army has proposed easing restrictions on Palestinians and providing ammunition to Palestinian security forces to help ease tensions and avert attacks by militants. He was also killed by security forces.
On Thursday, the commander of Israel’s premier paratrooper brigade, Colonel Nimrod Aloni, said tackling Palestinian violence was a matter of “a great degree of confusion”.
An Israeli official said government officials, however, have rejected the military’s proposals.
It said locals threw petrol bombs and rocks at the troops, who fired at one of them.
He emphasized the need for the global community to respond to the Palestinian leadership’s request to provide the Palestinian people with protection and realize their freedom and independence.
