Thrill-seekers were left stuck on The Smiler rollercoaster in the United Kingdom after the ride came to a stop as it climbed up before one of the large drops.

“We walked away and could two cars stuck, one which was vertical with the people facing up”.
They added they expected the ride to reopen later this afternoon.
At the time of the stoppage there were 32 people on the ride, but nobody was injured in the incident.
Eyewitness Liam Dennett was with his family from Cheltenham who were queuing for the Smiler ride when “everything just stopped”.
The people were reportedly stuck on the ride for over an hour.
‘My son still wants to go on it, but I wouldn’t go on it personally now, ‘ he said.
A horror accident took place on the rollercoaster in June 2015, leaving a number of passengers seriously injured. “We didn’t know what was coming so I hope they were told they were getting off straight away”.
“This time last year I was able to get on The Smiler, but when we went around the next day it was closed for technical reasons – and actually remained closed all week and this was actually before the incident last year”. “They’re very surprised. I even broke my foot because I’m walking that well and now I’m even learning to run”.
Two women, Leah Washington and Vicky Balch, had to have their legs amputated.
They said: ‘On Thursday 1st September, Alton Towers Resort stopped The Smiler to investigate claims a piece of debris that had fallen from a carriage.
Katie Hopkins has faced a backlash on Twitter after making a joke about the Alton Towers disaster.
“The health and safety of our guests remains of paramount priority”.
A spokesperson for the theme park in Staffordshire said: “There was an evacuation and all guests are now clear”.

As a result, the full carriage ploughed into the rear of the empty vehicle.
