Panic grips JFK airport as reports of shots prompt evacuation
Hundreds of passengers at the John F Kennedy International Airport in NY on Monday evacuated from two terminals following reports that multiple shots had been fired in one of the world’s busiest airport, triggering scenes of panic and chaos.

“Preliminary investigation does not indicate shots were fired at JFK”, Port Authority officials said in a statement today.
One video shows people evacuating Terminal 8 with their hands in the air, under direction of a woman speaking over the intercom.
There was no immediate confirmation of injuries or arrests, but Port Authority (PAPD) police evacuated at least two terminals at John F. Kennedy International Airport as a precaution, and gave the all clear shortly after midnight.
During the shutdown, police searched every part of Terminal 8, a usually packed American Airlines terminal, looking for evidence of a gun, bullets or a victim.
Detectives have been unable to find the origin of several 911 calls that sparked an evacuation and a police sweep, according to a police source.
JFK UPDATE: All terminals searched & cleared.
Authorities say travelers at New York’s Kennedy Airport cheering and loudly celebrating Usain (yoo-SAYN’) Bolt’s Olympic 100-meter dash victory may have prompted ultimately unfounded reports of gunshots there.
Video taken by a witness Sunday night contains a loud noise that could be mistaken for the reported gunshot, but law enforcement officials have told ABC News that this is not the case. “It appears that no shots have been fired”, he said.

Authorities scoured the terminal and determined no shots had been fired. He also said that the televisions above him were tuned to CNN and not the Olympics.
