Panthers at Patriots: Highlights, score and recap

After missing two games with a slight tear of the medial collateral ligament, linebacker Dont’a Hightower returned to the New England Patriots’ lineup on Sunday.

The Panthers beat the Patriots at the buzzer yesterday, 33-30, at Gillette Stadium, where the Pats have now lost twice in three games.

Rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson followed a breakout performance last weekend in New England with a record-setting display in his third career start as Houston ran roughshod over Tennessee.

-Newton is now the Panthers’ all-time winningest quarterback, passing Jake Delhomme (53).

It’s just not a good look from a quarterback in Newton who has now thrown two touchdowns compared to five interceptions on the season. Foxborough will be where the Panthers look to bounce back against New England.

Offensively, the Patriots will have plenty of options.

After Newton’s interception late in the first quarter, he finished the half a ideal eight for eight with two touchdowns, with 189 yards and a 126.3 quarterback rating. Carolina will need big plays from McCaffrey in what could be a track meet.

No Carolina Panther demonstrated during the anthem.

“Carolina is really an impressive team”. Only Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers has compiled more passing yards and touchdown passes.

The Panthers’ strength is defense. This gave the Panthers new life and essentially a new start to the drive.

And on the field, Newton is performing more like a backup caliber quarterback than a former MVP. They did just that finishing off another long 11-play drive with a 35-yard field goal giving the Patriots the lead at 13-10 with 4:30 left in the half. The Patriots (2-2) forced a pair of turnovers, but had trouble containing Newton’s stable of targets. A bar in Leominster decided it would no longer air National Football League games due to the protest, and a group of Patriots fans burned team jerseys and gear at a neighbor’s front lawn bonfire in Swansea.

Now they host the gritty Panthers and hope to continue their winning ways as stay atop a suddenly competitive AFC East. After losing his favorite target in Greg Olsen to the IR, it will be tougher for Cam to make some serious damage.

After the game, Cam Newton sent a message that would indicate he felt like nobody was giving his team a chance to win.

But y’all didn’t want to talk to him before the game.

What’s mystifying is how numerous Patriots’ mistakes have been self-inflicted. It has no takeaways in the past two games after turning two into touchdowns in the opener.
