Panthers beat Cowboys 33-14

There’s good news and bad news for the Dallas Cowboys. Romo suffered his second collarbone injury this season in Dallas’ 33-14 loss to the undefeated Carolina Panthers on Thursday (Friday in Australia). While the initial X-ray was inconclusive, Romo said the injury felt similar to what he experienced against the Eagles and said he “could hear something happen” as he went to the turf. Cowboy’s Manager Jerry Jones confirmed the news.

As a Cowboys fan, this is one of the most disappointing seasons in recent memory.

Matt Cassel, who started four games during Romo’s first absence, will be the starter as long as he’s healthy. The team is now 3-8 with Cassell back at quarterback. He was immediately taken to the locker room for X-rays.

“I worked hard to come back, to get myself acclimated to the game”, he continued. “We need to make a move now”. We got an X-ray, but we need more than that. We can’t have performances like this – there’s no excuses.

“Oh man. I haven’t done that in a while”, Kuechly said.

There wasn’t much of a dance after that front flip, but we would be remiss if this feat of athletic prowess was left off the list.

They gambled on Greg Hardy. They gained nine rushing first downs in the game. They are already in the midst of a slow season, with a record of 3-8 and now they are losing their star quarterback. The Carolina loss was his first of the season.

Still, Romo has suffered shoulder and back injuries in recent seasons and this year he’s broken his collarbone, possibly twice. Talk about cruel irony for Cowboys Nation. He returned for last week’s 24-14 victory against the Miami Dolphins, offering hope that the Cowboys could salvage their season and playoff hopes with a final closing run. Meanwhile, the Cowboys are expected to have a high pick in the upcoming National Football League draft. The Cowboys have a great line to protect him and one has to believe Jones will go into the 2016 offseason believing his team’s championship window is open and invest accordingly.

In an update, ESPN’s Ed Werder noted that Romo will miss the entire season since his recovered collarbone only lasted for two games.

This comes after Romo endured back surgeries in 2013 and 2014.

“Yes, ” Kelly said simply when asked if defensive coordinator Billy Davis would stay put after giving up 45 points in consecutive games, not to mention 10 touchdown passes and no interceptions in a five-day span. The Eagles haven’t forced a turnover in three games.

The Cowboys will certainly be on the lookout to upgrade the backup quarterback position.
