Panthers beat Romo-less Cowboys

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Friday that quarterback Tony Romo’s season is done after he fractured his left collarbone for the second time this season.

Romo, who threw three interceptions and had two of them returned for touchdowns in a 33-14 loss to undefeated Carolina, was knocked out on the final play of the third quarter Thursday.

Safety Kurt Coleman, from Ohio State, picked off Romo’s second pass of the game and took it 36 yards for a score to help the Panthers become the 16th National Football League team to start a season 11-0.

Romo injured the same left collarbone that sidelined him for all seven games of a losing streak that damaged the playoff hopes for the defending NFC East champion Cowboys (3-8).

ESPN reported that the Cowboys star sustained the injury during the third quarter of the game when he was sacked by Panthers linebacker, Thomas Davis.

Romo laid on the field for several minutes following the hit before walking off as he favored his left arm. After the game Romo said the injury felt “similar” to what he felt when he broke his collarbone earlier this season.

“Yeah, you know, I’ve got diverse dancing ability”, Newton said after throwing for 183 yards and running for another 45. “I’m just very disappointed in not giving our team a chance to win today”, Romo said.

Romo was suffering through one of the worst games of his career before the injury, completing just 11-of-21 passes for 106 yards with no touchdowns and three interceptions.

The only stat that the Cowboys care about is winning, and Cassel is 0-4 as a starter this season and the Cowboys are 0-7 without Romo under center in 2015. Sanchez was 19 of 27 for 199 yards and two touchdowns. I needed to take a little more time.

Cam Newton sprinted to a corner of the $1.2 billion showplace of the Dallas Cowboys, pointing a camera at celebrating Carolina fans while gesturing to them with a wide smile.

That leaves the Cowboys with only Matt Cassel as their only quarterback on their active roster moving forward.

During a radio interview on KRLD-FM radio in Dallas, Jones said that Romo suffered a hairline fracture that will not require surgery.

The play came late in the third quarter as Romo was being sacked.

The fact Rivera was concerned about an 8-yard rush by Darren McFadden – and that it was replayed as a highlight at AT&T Stadium – says a lot about the state of both teams, particularly as it relates to the Panthers’ run defense.
