Panthers go to 10-0 with win over Redskins

He became the first Carolina quarterback in franchise history to throw four TD passes in an opening half, helping the Panthers carry a 31-14 lead into the locker room.

All of this becomes so much more interesting when you consider the relative silence when it comes to outbursts by quarterbacks of lighter shades. They had 14 yards rushing against Carolina. Earlier this season Carolina allowed a 74-yard punt return for a score.

Then the end of the first quarter came, and it brought an end to the Redskins’ hopes of winning.

And that was the end of anything good happening for Washington. He’s familiar with most of the team, but nobody more than Panthers left tackle Michael Oher.

The Redskins had a 74-yard interception return for a touchdown by cornerback Chris Culliver called back on the drive when officials ruled he had delivered an illegal helmet-to-helmet hit on Olsen before the interception. Rivers attempted a pass to Danny Woodhead from the Chargers 23 and Houston intercepted it and ran it in for a 19-3 lead with 3:27 left in the third quarter.

Newton had thrown for 2,037 yards, 15 touchdowns, nine interceptions and an 84.8 passer rating.

Redskins defensive end Jason Hatcher caused a stir after the game, blaming the team’s controversial nickname for officiating calls being made against them.

With that TD waived off, the game momentarily remained tied at 14, until the Panthers scored the game’s next 30 points.

Cam Newton and Jameis Winston threw five touchdowns each as the Carolina Panthers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers romped to impressive victories in Week 11 of the National Football League season. – Cam Newton, on where the Panthers go from here. He did it today. His career-high five touchdown passes were to five different receivers.

Matt Prater made three field goals on as many attempts in the first half to give Detroit a 9-0 lead. Even as he claimed Offensive Rookie of the Year honors and brought the Panthers back to respectability early in his career, he was labeled a running quarterback, generally by people more interested in his physical abilities than anything gleaned from tape study.

Three plays later Cam Newton tossed his fifth touchdown pass to put the Panthers up 38-14 and make the final 28 minutes a living hell for Cousins, a week removed from posting a flawless passer rating against New Orleans. He scored on a 2-yard run in the first quarter and added a 31-yard catch-and-run touchdown from Wilson in the fourth quarter to give the Seahawks a 16-point lead. On Sunday, Washington lost to the currently-undefeated Carolina Panthers 44-16.

Kony Ealy deserves special props for not only recording a sack, but taking the ball out of Cousins’ hands like he was snatching a kid’s lunch. On most of those sacks, Cousins never had a chance.

A potential interception for a touchdown by Washington’s Chris Culliver was called back for unnecessary roughness penalty for going to Greg Olsen’s head to jar the ball loose. He’s had help from linebacker Thomas Davis, who has three.

However, coach John Harbaugh revealed after the match: “Joe Flacco just had a season-ending knee injury”. If it is serious, that’s a devastating blow.

Newton was among the 13 former Auburn players who got on the field on the 11th Sunday of the NFL’s 2015 season. Replacement Ty Nsekhe was beaten badly for a sack on his first play after taking over for Williams. He can not seem to fix this problem.

Notes: Washington has followed every victory this season with a loss. That’s how bad teams lose. Carolina will unveil new uniforms for the holiday game, which will be another national introduction to a team that still feels it hasn’t been validated.
