Panthers LB Davis not anxious about broken arm in Super Bowl

Carolina Panthers All-Pro linebacker Thomas Davis and safety Roman Harper will not return after leaving the NFC championship game against the Arizona Cardinals with injuries. Davis left the game in the second quarter with six tackles – including two for a loss.

Panthers coach Ron Rivera confirmed Monday afternoon Davis had undergone surgery and continued to say he expects Carolina’s veteran leader to be available against Peyton Manning and Co.

But Davis isn’t the only concern the Panthers had to deal with after yesterday’s game. “I think they will have to take all of his jerseys away – all five of them, and even the ones at home”. A post by his wife on Instagram Monday appears to show him getting ready for surgery. His practice repetitions are likely to be limited, but Rivera echoed Thomas’ intention when he said “I’m not doubting Thomas”.

“I’m not missing the Super Bowl”, Davis said after the game.

“I believe in our training staff. I believe in the process”, he told reporters after Sunday’s win.

Davis was selected to his first Pro Bowl this year. “This is something that, if it comes down to pain tolerance and playing through it, I’ll be there – I guarantee you”. “Three ACLs. Broken fingers”. From the Panthers, quarterback Cam Newton, running back Jonathan Stewart, tight end Greg Olsen, center Ryan Kalil, guard Trai Turner, fullback Mike Tolbert, linebackers Luke Kuechly and Thomas Davis, defensive tackle Kawann Short, and cornerback Josh Norman won’t be going to Hawaii.
