As the Panthers prepare to face former Carolina defensive end Greg Hardy, they’ll be getting another pass rusher back from injury.

Amini Silatolu will undergo season-ending surgery after tearing the ACL in his left knee during the second half of the Panthers’ 44-16 win against Washington on Sunday.

The Panthers plan to activate defensive end Charles Johnson from short-term injured reserve on Tuesday. “We were just very fortunate the timing works out for us in this respect”.

Coach Ron Rivera said Monday a final decision hasn’t been made on the starting ends for Thursday’s Thanksgiving Day game at Dallas. Allen has a pair of sacks since being acquired by the Panthers, who are led in the sack department with six by defensive tackle Kawann Short. “As we go forward into the stretch run we want our best players available”.

Johnson has been on IR with a designation to return since severely straining his hamstring during a Week 3 win over New Orleans.

Johnson, second on the team’s all-time sack list, has started every game he’s been healthy for since the start of the 2010 season.

The Panthers promptly traded for Jared Allen, the NFL’s active career leader in sacks.

Horton had played in eight of the team’s 10 games, with two starts, and recorded one sack. And pass rushing specialist Mario Addison has 4 ½ sacks for the league’s fourth-ranked defense. Norwell has missed the last three games with a hamstring issue.
