Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton will take the field on Sunday to face the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl 50 hoping to take home the ultimate prize of the Lombardi Trophy.
Overall, Newton completed 59.8 percent of his passes for 3,827 yards, 35 touchdowns and 11 interceptions this season while adding 636 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground.
He has undoubtedly been the spark plug for the Panthers this season, leading the team to a 15-1 regular season record and an NFC Championship title.
“It means so much, but not just for myself”, Newton said in a video acceptance speech for the MVP award.
It was a clean sweep for the Panthers, with Carolina’s Ron Rivera named NFL Coach of the Year.
Meanwhile the awards saw confirmation of the latest batch of players to be admitted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Houston DE J.J. Watt was named Defensive Player of the Year for the third time in his career. He also won it in 2012 and previous year. He ended it by saying: “I’d also like to thank every person who doubted me because you also made me better”.
