Panthers remain ideal, outlast Giants 38-35 in nasty game

“I think he’s mature enough to know what I just said – don’t hurt the team”, Casillas said.

The undefeated Carolina Panthers went to East Rutherford to take on the New York Giants on Sunday, and the Giants weren’t going down easy.

Graham Gano’s 43-yard field goal as time expired kept Carolina flawless this season with a wild 38-35 victory over the New York Giants on Sunday. Instead, Gano’s heroics gave the Panthers a 38-35 victory at MetLIfe Stadium.

Beckham wasn’t but the Giants (6-8) now are a game out of first place in the NFC East with two to go. It goes to Eli Manning, who as always remains calm and cool in those situations.

Newton threw for all of Carolina’s five touchdowns, directed the game-clinching field-goal drive, and compiled a silly 440 yards of offense (340 by air, 100 by land).

Beckham also repeatedly credited the Panthers and took blame for dropping an early touchdown pass. He said he regretted his three penalties but added that the officials usually flag the player who retaliates in most cases and that the score would still end up “35-35 in the fourth quarter” despite the penalties. Beckham was productive once again, totaling six receptions for 76 yards and an important late touchdown, but his attitude was completely unacceptable. From the first quarter on, the two have been getting into it with multiple skirmishes.

The Panthers defensive star agitated Beckham throughout the game by jamming him at the line of scrimmage and battering him with hands to his face and hits under his facemask.

Carolina scored first when Newton found receiver TED GINN (6 catches for 85 yards and 2 scores) in the back of the end zone and behind Giants safety CRAIG DAHL for a 3 yard score. It’s an unfathomably massive day for the Panthers quarterback. But he returned to toss a 16-yard TD pass to John Brown and finished 20 of 32 for 274 yards. He then increased the lead to six points when he hit from 46 yards out with 1:42 left in the game as the Falcons moved to 7-7. But Denver (10-4) failed to score in the second half to see its lead in the AFC West over the Kansas City Chiefs trimmed to one game.

The Panthers put the Giants in a further hole near the tail end of the first half. The drive signaled that the Panthers’ attention had wandered on defense, however.

Carolina wasn’t done scoring yet.

The reason why the NFL – sometimes sarcastically referred to as the No Fun League – doesn’t allow such individual statements from players? With 10:03 left in the third quarter the Panthers took a commanding 28-7 lead.

After a three-and-out by the Giants, Newton dissected the Giants’ defense in a two-minute drill, capping off a 72-yard drive with a 14-yard TD pass to Devin Funchess with 21 seconds on the clock to make it 21-7.

With the win, the Panthers improve their franchise record-setting season record to 14-0. Giants S Cooper Taylor (concussion). The Giants scored on an 8-yard pass from Manning to Stony Brook product Will Tye.

The Eagles were driving for the tying score, but went for fourth-and-1 at the Cardinals 8 and Mathews was stopped for no gain. I mean, that fourth-quarter mini-rally was nice, but it’s hard to say it really mattered much. He became just the second player in National Football League history with 300 pass yards and 100 rush yards in the same game, joining Russell Wilson from 2014.
